Stoltzfus Eats: Slow Cooker Baked Beans

Stoltzfus Eats: Slow Cooker Baked Beans

Cayla Stoltzfoos |

Ahh, grilling season! As you could probably tell from our last post, we love summer holidays and grilling season. One of the things we most enjoy about Memorial Day is spending time with friends and family around a table full of tasty food.

This recipe for Slow Cooker Baked Beans (with Stoltzfus Meats bacon, might I add), adapted from Whitney Bond, will allow you to maximize your time with your loved ones and minimize your prep time in the kitchen. Win, win!

Baked beans are one of those things that people sometimes try to doctor up to make the absolute best batch, but we have found that a few simple ingredients can lead to especially delicious baked beans. This recipe uses Stoltzfus Meats bacon, which adds some extra smokiness and flavor! Stoltzfus Meats bacon is hand-trimmed, slow-cured, and smoked over hickory wood or applewood, depending which flavor option you pick.

Simply grill up some grillers, burgers, or any of the other meat options we mentioned in our previous post, serve some macaroni salad or coleslaw, put out some chips and drinks, set out the slow cooker of baked beans, and you have a full Memorial Day meal!

What you need for Slow Cooker Baked Beans:

Slow Cooker Baked Beans ingredients
  • 60 oz pork and beans
  • 4 slices Stoltzfus Meats bacon
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 cup onion, diced
  • 2 tsp ground mustard
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt

How to make Slow Cooker Baked Beans:

Add all of the ingredients to the slow cooker and cook on low for 4-6 hours. I’m not kidding, that’s it! It does not get any easier than that!

For the bacon, you can either add the full slices into the slow cooker mixture and then remove before serving. This option gives you the flavor of the bacon without the actual bacon. Or you could chop the bacon before placing into the slow cooker to have small chunks of bacon in the dish.

If you prefer, this recipe could also be baked in the oven at 350 degrees F for 90 minutes.
