Stoltzfus Eats: PA Dutch Ham and Green Beans
For today's Stoltzfus Eats post, we wanted to feature a true Pennsylvania Dutch classic - Ham and Green Beans. Not only is this recipe incredibly easy, but because of using our Smoked Ham Hocks, it's is so flavorful!
There are endless ways to make this PA Dutch favorite. Today, though, we made it the way that the Stoltzfus family makes ham and green beans.
What you'll need for this recipe:
3 T butter
2 Stoltzfus Meats ham hocks
1 quart new potatoes, quartered
1 quart green beans, cut into 1.5 - 2 inch pieces
2 cups water
Melt butter in Dutch oven over medium heat. Sear ham hocks on all sides until golden brown (approx. 3-4 minutes per side).
Place the ham hocks in a crockpot and add water. Cook for 5-6 hours on low. Periodically check the crockpot to make sure the water hasn't completely evaporated and add more as needed.
Add the potatoes and the green beans to the crockpot and cook for an additional 1-2 hours, until potatoes are fork tender.
Remove the ham hocks from the crockpot. Shred the ham hocks on a cutting board and return the meat to the crockpot.
Stir everything together in the crockpot and serve.
As always, if you make this meal, we would love to hear about it. Please let us know in the comments or be sure to tag us on social media. Thanks for joining us for Stoltzfus Eats… where feeding you is our pleasure!
