#TBT: Intercourse Heritage Days

Intercourse Heritage Days at the Intercourse Community Park

Stoltzfus Meats |

This coming weekend, one of Intercourse, PA’s favorite annual events is happening: Intercourse Heritage Days at the Intercourse Community Park. In 2020, we were unable to hold the event due to COVID-19 restrictions so we are extra excited to be back this year celebrating the history and heritage of the town of Intercourse, PA!

In anticipation of the event, we thought it might be nice to take a stroll down memory lane through some pictures that have been taken at previous Heritage Days events!

Volleyball is a favorite activity at the Heritage Days festival! In 2019, 70 teams participated in the volleyball tournament. The courts now take up a large portion of the park during the event.

Local artisans and business owners display their skills in demonstrations that show some of the heritage of the area. Pictured below is a local wood carver creating an eagle in 2019. Myron Stoltzfus, the owner of Stoltzfus Meats, often does a demonstration related to meat cutting or smoking.

In 2019, Myron brought his bacon expertise to the event and smoked a small batch of bacon in his own handmade meat smoker. He shared details about the process of smoking and cooking the bacon and even shared some samples with the crowd!

Each year, people bring out their antique tractors and put them on display for the second day of the event. In the afternoon the tractors line up for a tractor parade!

One of the kickoff events is the pie contest where contestants submit pies in three different categories: variety pies, shoofly pies, and whoopie pies. Local individuals are selected to participate as judges in the contest and cash prizes are given to the winners of each category as well as a grand champion!

This caramel apple pie must have tasted as good as it looks because it won grand champion in 2019!

Another obvious crowd favorite is the food tent! Local businesses, such as Lapp Valley, Olde Mill Restaurant, the Kling House Restaurant, Immergut Soft Pretzels, and, our personal favorite (although we might be a little biased), Stoltzfus Meats, sell some of their featured products.

This is just a small glimpse into the event, as there are also plenty of kids’ activities, concerts, and even a stunning firework show to wrap up the event on Saturday night.

We hope you can join us this weekend at Intercourse Heritage Days! The event kicks off Friday, June 18th. We look forward to seeing you at Intercourse Heritage Days!
