This week we’re highlighting Kathy, one of the cooks behind our Farmhouse Meal line. Kathy is pictured above, left, with her mom, Ruthie, who is another one of our Farmhouse Meal cooks.
In case you're not familiar with our Farmhouse Meal line, we offer cooked, ready to heat and serve meal options, such as sweet potato casserole, soups, ham balls, green beans, macaroni and cheese, lasagna, and so much more! Q: What is your role at Stoltzfus Meats?
A: I work in the Farmhouse kitchen, located at Stoltzfus Homestead and Gardens, cooking homemade soups and farmhouse meals that they offer at Stoltzfus Meats and Deli. I am the main cook there. However, I couldn’t do it all without the two women (Ruthie, pictured above, and Sue) that help me during the week. They are the best and I’m so thankful for their help.
Q: What is an accomplishment or project that you completed at Stoltzfus Meats that you are proud of?
A: We started about 6 years ago developing recipes and making a small amount of homemade soups. It continued to grow and that led to adding Farmhouse Meals. I love that we stayed true to our Farmhouse roots. I can honestly say that the food we make is homemade. It’s what I would make at home for my family. Some of the recipes even come from my grandmother’s recipe book. Maybe tweaked a little, but only for the better.
Q: How long have you been at Stoltzfus Meats? What did you do before your current position?
A: I’ve been working for Stoltzfus Meats for about 5 years. I worked for a long time before that at Stoltzfus Farm Restaurant. I took a few years off in between the two jobs to stay home and raise my 3 kiddos. I’ve always worked in the restaurant/cooking business and love developing recipes that other people love to eat!
Q: What is your favorite Stoltzfus Meats product?
A: My favorite product will always and forever be the
bacon. Enough said.
Q: What types of things do you like to do in your free time?
A: When I’m not working, I am typically running my kids to either sports practices, piano lessons or watching their games. My two boys play football, basketball, and baseball for Warwick. And my daughter, who is 5-years-old, gets to be my sidekick through it all. I love cooking healthy and delicious food for my husband and kids. On my days off you’d probably find me in the kitchen making a batch of sourdough bread and taking our beloved Golden Retriever for a walk.
Kathy’s passion for cooking and making our delicious Farmhouse Meals is contagious. Her friendly smile and positive attitude are such a great part of the Stoltzfus Meats team. We are so thankful for Kathy and her creativity in the kitchen!
