Cooked over the campfire, this is a tasty option that is easily customizable and can be used for a main dish or dessert! One tip: mountain pies (also called campfire pies, or pie irons) are best when cooked over a bed of coals, so make sure to start your campfire in advance to ensure the fire has burned down. If you try to cook your mountain pies in flames, you may end up with a burnt meal!

Mountain Pie Recipes

Each Mountain Pie begins with buttered sandwich bread. Filling Options:

Mountain pie option 1: Stoltzfus original sausage, sliced or chunked Pepperoni, Mozzarella cheese, Marinara sauce
Mountain pie option 2: Sliced or chunked Stoltzfus Boneless Smoked Ham, Sliced Swiss cheese, Sliced cheddar cheese
Mountain pie option 3: Marshmallows, Fresh Ground Peanut Butter, Chocolate bars

Instructions: Build a campfire. Allow to burn down until a good bed of coals has built up. Butter two pieces of bread. Place the bread in the mountain pie iron, buttered side down. Fill with desired toppings. Close mountain pie iron. Trim off any excess bread. Put the mountain pie iron over the coals. Periodically flip the iron over, checking the mountain pie as you flip to ensure that it is not burning. When the bread is golden brown, remove from the fire, let cool for a few moments, and enjoy!
